• Welcome to the RI Breakers Girls Basketball Club!

Started in 1990 by a few dedicated volunteers, the Breaker’s basketball club was created to meet the following goals:

  • To improve the basketball skills of those student-athletes who were willing to show exceptional dedication to the sport of basketball and have a desire to play at the collegiate level.

  • To promote sportsmanship and cooperative spirit among the participants regardless of race, religion or socioeconomic standing.

  • To enhance the cultural and educational opportunities for the student-athlete through travel outside the State of Rhode Island.

  • To promote education through basketball

FORMER BREAKER KELLY MANNIX NAMED  CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL -AMERICAN

Austin, TX - As one of five players named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team earlier this month, ADELPHI senior  Kelly Mannix has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Her performance on and off the court has earned her this honor.

With a 3.95 GPA in management, the Barrington, Rhode Island native has started in all 28 games for the Panthers, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. In regular season play, she completed 11 double-doubles and shot nearly 52 percent from the field. Mannix also averaged 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game

July 2014 RI Breakers Nyzio and Oxford for advancing out of pool play at the USJN.

July 2014: RI Breakers  Nyzio and Oxford:  3-1  Black Diamond Championship Pennsylvania, 4-0 Lone Wolf Shootout, Burlington, Vermont and 4-0 at USJN Nike Summerfest.

June 2014: RI Breakers Edgehill  on winning the 2014 Mass State Div I AAU 16U Championship.

April 2014:  Congratulations to RI Breakers Nyzio. Oxford and  Edgehill  on a strong performance at the Deep South Classic in Raleigh, NC.

April 2014:  RI Breakers Edgehill  won the 17U National Championship Bracket at the 2014 Deep South Classic.  The only team in the Northeast to win a Championship Bracket.

Congratulations to Maura Kelty, Barrington, RI and Karli O’Driscoll, Sharon, MA on scoring their 1000th high school career points. Kelty and O’Driscoll are headed to Caldwell College in the fall.

Congratulations to former Breaker and Boston College Captain, Katie Z on scoring her 1000th collegiate point.

Congratulations to former Breaker Kelly Mannix, Adelphi junior, was among seven women from the Northeast-10 Conference to be named to the 2013-2014 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 Basketball team. Recipients of this award must post a 3.30 grade-point average to be considered. Mannix, a 3.95 GPA Business management major, is averaging 11.5 points on the season and is shooting 56.9 from the field this year.

Congratulations to former Rhode Island Breaker, Heather Buck, Stonnington Ct, and her U CONN Teammates on winning the NCAA DIV I National Championship and on her engagement to be married.

2014 The  Rhode Island Breakers  Girls’ Basketball Club recognized in top 50 clubs in United States by FBG and All Star Girls’ Basketball Report. The only team in New England to be so honored.

Kelly Mannix on her selection as Adelphi Athlete of the Week.  Kelly helped guide the Panthers to two wins that week; the first was an 80-67 win on the road at St. Rose where she posted 15 points and eight rebounds. The second win was at home against Assumption in a hard fought 66-58 victory. There, she registered a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards.

Nov 13 Kara Charette, Franklin Pierce (Fr., F, Fairhaven, Mass.) – In her first two collegiate games this past weekend, Charette averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, shooting a combined 16-of-22 from the floor in a pair of wins. Charette went for 21 points and nine rebounds in her debut on Friday in an 81-54 win over Nyack. She followed that up with a 22-point performance in Saturday’s 69-54 win over U Sciences.
Dec 31 Kara Charette, Franklin Pierce (Fr., F, Fairhaven, Mass.) – Charette averaged 18.5 points on a combined 13-of-20 shooting in two games this past weekend in the Big Easy Challenge in New Orleans. She had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds ver­sus Young Harris on Saturday and followed with 18 points in a 57-41 win over Dillard on Sunday.
 
Sunday Jan 14 Rookie of the Week Kara Charette, Franklin Pierce (Fr., F, Fairhaven, Mass.) – Charette averaged 20.5 points per game in a pair of Ravens’ wins last week on a combined 11-of-16 shooting (68.8 percent) from the floor. She also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks. The rookie dropped in 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win over So. Connecticut on Wednesday. She then had 19 points in a win over Le Moyne on Saturday.
 
Jan 21 Rookie of the Week Kara Charette, Franklin Pierce (Fr., F, Fairhaven, Mass.) – Charette shot 72 percent (13-18) from the field in a 2-0 week, averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 re­bounds and 2.0 assists per contest. She went for 19 points in Tuesday’s win over New Haven and fol­lowed with 16 points in Satuday’s overtime victory at Adelphi.

Congratulations to Coach Andy Yosinoff on achieving his 700th career win. Coach Yosinoff joins the distinguished ranks of  Coach Barbara Stevens, Bentley and Gino Auriemma, U Conn, as the only other coaches in New England to reach that milestone. We are proud that the Breakers have had student athletes competing for each of those coaches.

Mannix Named ECAC Division II Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year.

Adelphi’s top freshman earns program’s first ever ECAC Rookie of the Year nod and first ECAC award since 2004

Freshman Kelly Mannix earned the first ECAC Division II Rookie of the Year award in program history. Centerville, Mass. – Freshman Kelly Mannix, the Adelphi University women’s basketball team’s top rookie during the 2011-12 season, was named the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year, it was announced on Friday. The honor marks the first time in Adelphi women’s hoops history that a Panther has earned an ECAC Rookie of the Year award Congratulaitons to Breaker Coach Jim Oxford and Breaker student athlete Maty Diabate and the Wachusett Regional High School team on winning the Central MA DIV I State Championship and advancing to the State Semi Finals.

LITTLE EAST COACH OF THE YEAR: Former Breaker Coach Marcus Reilly, Womens’ Basketball Coach at Rhode Island College, on his selection as Coach of the Year in the Little East Conference . NESCAC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Megan Robertson, Amherst College (Fr.,F, Tewksbury Ma, Andover Academy) was selected as NESCAC Rookie of the Year.

NESCAC LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: Meg Robertson & Jaclyn Renner will be competing for the defending DIV III National Champions, NESCAC League champions, Amherst College in the NCAA Tournament.

MAAC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS: Congratulations to Natalie Gomez and her Red Fox Teammates at Marist on winning the MAAC conference, League Tournament and a bid to the NCAA’s.

NORTHEAST 10_Conference All-League squads: Gabie Polce , The College of Saint Rose ( Fr, G, Chelsmford,Ma/Central Catholic) and Kelly Mannix, Adelphi (Fr., G, Barrington, R.I.) were selected to the All Rookie Team.

CACC LEAGUE: Aubrey Latham, Post University, Jr., F was selected Player of the Week and 3rd Team All League.

NCAA Academic All American Squad: Carly Thibault, Monmouth (Jr. G, CT) was selected to participate. Carly is the Captain of Monmouth’s Team.

NESCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Megan Robertson, Amherst College (Fr.,F, Tewksbury Ma, Andover Academy) was selected as NESCAC player of the week . Meg had 2 double/double games…21pts/17 rebounds vs Williams and 16pts /10 rebound vs Middlbebury

Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week: Kelly Mannix, Adelphi (Fr., G, Barrington, R.I.) – Mannix averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game last week for Adelphi. In Tuesday’s win at New Haven, Mannix led the Panthers with 12 points and 8 rebounds en rout to the team’s first Northeast-10 victory

MAAC Rookie of the Week: Marist Red Foxes Freshman guard Natalie Gomez (Andover, Mass.)was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. The awards honors Natalie’s performances last week against Auburn and Hofstra at the New York Life Holiday Invitational. Gomez is the first Marist freshman to win the award since 2007-08.

Kelly Mannix,  of Barrington High School, on grabbing her 1,000th career rebound. Kelly became the first Barrington High School Basketball Player to grab 1000 rebounds. In addition Kelly had already scored over 1,000pts.

The Breakers congratulate Heather Buck on her selection to the EA Sports All-American Girls’ Basketball Team.  Heather was one of only 20 student athletes selected for this honor. Heather was also invited by USA Basketball to the pretrial trials for the U18 basketball team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado in June. They will select 14 athletes to represent the US in games over the summer.
